I’m Just Happy I Know What Day it Is

There is so much going on right now! Aaarrrrrggghh!

Ok, I feel better. Here’s a look at what I’ve been up to:

Theatre stuff: last night was our first night off book. This is the rehearsal where the actors what we have scheduled without a script in their hands. Off book nights are that last painful step to memorizing lines and my cast did a lot better than they thought. It’s usually that way in a show; everyone knows their material better than they thought they do. Don’t get me wrong, there were still several moments that were slow going, but all-in-all I’m pleased with it. Our next rehearsal is Saturday morning where we will attempt Act 2 off book. Things are getting close now…we open in two weeks.

Life stuff: due to bad weather, yet again, we had to reschedule another soccer game. So far my son has played only one game this season and now the inevitable has happened: we will play three games next week. With my wife working a second job to earn some extra cash, I’ll have to reschedule some rehearsals and have my stage manager cover some other ones so I can get Little Man to his games next week. Come next weekend, my whole household is going to be exhausted, but we will always have times where everything comes at the same time. It just so happens, that the next couple of weeks is one of those times.

Writing stuff: well, I had a great idea and I’m mad at myself for it. Just when I thought I had everything ready to go to attack this rewrite for NaNoWriMo in November…I had some insight into my main character’s backstory and plotted a whole book for her origin. So it turns out the book I’ve been working on has become book 2 of a series, and now I need to start plotting and outlining book 1. Well…ok. I only have myself to blame, right? Good news here is I still have about a month of time to get all this in order, so it is very doable. It’s just that I still have a show to open at the same time. I’m also on the docket to help with special effects makeup for a haunted house at the end of October, so…yeah. I can do it. I can do it.

Other writing stuff: I’ve been able to keep pace so far with the journal I’ve started. I’ve had an entry a day ever since I started. It’s nothing big by any means, but it was never intended to be a book per day. Some of them are just quick thoughts for the day. I’ve started tagging a cinquain poem at the end of the days that have something to do with the entry. I’ve had fun doing those. I’m proud of myself of sticking with it. I wanted to keep a realistic goal and not overextend myself, knowing what all else I’m doing. Good one me.

  1. Sounds like my schedule…I have the habit of not being able to say “no” when someone asks me to help with something. I’m glad you’re accomplishing your writing goals – even if they’re small it’s a great feeling of accomplishment. Happy writing!
